Performing

Paul is a founding member of the eclectic and innovative cello-bass duo, Low and Lower and the well-known double bass quartet, The Bad Boyz of the Double Bass.  He has also recently performed as guest artist at Villa Musica in Neuwied, Germany; with the Mallarmé Chamber Players; numerous times on the faculty chamber music series at UNCSA; the Anchorage Chamber Music Festival; and the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival.

Paul also is principal bass of the Winston-Salem Symphony Orchestra and performs frequently with the Charleston (SC) Symphony Orchestra.  Additionally, he is a section bassist with the USA’s finest winter music festival orchestra, Arizona MusicFest in Scottsdale, AZ in February.

Teaching

The UNCSA double bass studio has alumni in many major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra, the Washington National Opera, the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra, and many more.   Since my arrival in 2007, my students have earned full or nearly full scholarships to graduate and undergraduate programs at Boston University, Indiana University, University of North Texas, Carnegie-Mellon University, NYU, McGill, Ithaca College, Northwestern University, and more. Additionally, my students have earned fellowships to Texas Music Festival, National Music Festival, Aims-Graz Festival (Austria), and Domaine-Forgetand members of the high school program have competed twice as semi-finalists in the ISB Bassists Solo Competition, won the NC-ASTA Solo Competition, earned spots in NYO-USA, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Interlochen, and more.  Applications to the UNCSA School of Music can be found here.
